When it comes to legal forms, no one wants to use them or pay anything for them unless they must.
So how do you NOT pay for legal forms?
Short answer is that you can find free forms on line for free, but at a risk. For example, you don't know if the document drafter is a genius, but experience-less 5 year old who's just wondering if anyone's actually going to use her made-for-fun Last Will & Testament. You also don't know when that Last Will & Testament was drafted and if it complies with current law. Most importantly, you don't know if that seemingly perfect document contains the terms and clauses that you need to protect you, your family and your assets.
So what now? Am I stuck with paying ridiculous attorney fees every time I need a legal form?
Unfortunately, I have to say that it depends. Typically, the more complex your situation, or the more assets are involved in a transaction, then the more legal fees will be required - it just takes more work to safeguard more issues and more money.
Costs for legal forms for the regular person trying to make it in the big city don't have to be ridiculous, but it does depend on how much personal care you are getting. You could just buy a form, fill it out, and then hope it was done properly and that it will protect you, but why wouldn't you take the extra step for the peace of mind of knowing that someone with expertise considered your situation and made sure the paperwork was done properly?
It's just smarter, and besides, Stan will credit the cost of any Ask Stan legal form towards the cost of legal advice for that form.
